Mr. Kelley’s practice is in civil litigation and intellectual property. His civil litigation practice includes general insurance defense, particularly in the areas of complex litigation, medical malpractice, insurance coverage, and commercial litigation. Mr. Kelley uses his legal experience to help clients build their businesses and resolve or avoid litigation in a cost effective manner. Mr. Kelley also helps clients review their contracts and renders opinions on coverage issues and other contractual obligations. Mr. Kelley’s intellectual property practice focuses on the strategic management and development of comprehensive intellectual property portfolios for domestic and foreign clients. Prior to moving to Roanoke, Mr. Kelley practiced patent law (chemical/biotechnology/medical devices) in the Washington, DC office of a national law firm and he has worked in a laboratory researching cancer therapeutics. He has experience in patent prosecution and litigation, administrative proceedings before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, drafting licenses and other agreements, and strategic intellectual property management. Mr. Kelley has worked for a variety of businesses including: medical device companies, pharmaceutical companies, major universities, start-up businesses, and individual inventors. He has worked on-site in the technology transfer office of a prestigious university and uses this practical experience to help his clients acquire new technologies or commercialize their own technology using licensing or other techniques.Staff: Education:
